Ao contrário dos animais normais de sua espécie, os Dados de Vida, habilidades, perícias e talentos de um companheiro animal avançam à medida que o druida avança de nível. Se um personagem recebe um companheiro animal de mais de uma fonte, seus níveis efetivos de druida se acumulam para determinar as estatísticas e habilidades do companheiro. A maioria dos companheiros animais aumenta de tamanho quando seu druida atinge o 4º ou 7º nível, dependendo do companheiro.
