At 5th level, the black blade's ego becomes so great that the weapon can fight even without a wielder. As a free action, the bladebound magus can release his grasp on the black blade, allowing it to fight as a separate creature. The black blade gains a damage bonus, as if the magus used the sharpening the black blade ability. It attacks his opponents to the best of its ability for 1 minute. The black blade has the following characteristics: Ability scores equal to the magus's Intelligence Base attack bonus equal to the magus's base attack bonus Hit points equal to 2 × the magus's Intelligence modifier × the magus's level Deflection bonus to AC equal to the magus's base attack bonus Construct traits No Constitution score Hardness 5 To manifest the released black blade in his hand, the magus must spend 1 point from his arcane pool. If either the magus or the black blade falls unconscious, the black blade disappears into a nondimensional space, where it can be reached only by a bladebound magus. To do so, he must spend 3 points from his arcane pool (after the combat ends). Additionally, when the magus holds the black blade in his hand or when the released black blade is adjacent to him, the magus gains a circumstance bonus to AC equal to 1/4 the magus's level.
